New to Steamboat? Mud season in 30 seconds

Mud season is the quiet stretch between fall and the start of ski season, and again in spring. Some restaurants close for a few weeks so their crews can rest. Many of the ones that stay open roll out their best deals of the year for locals, and visitors get them too.

Steamboat Resort opens for the season Saturday, Nov. 21, according to steamboat.com. The resort's own restaurants start reopening then; some base-area spots come back sooner (see the dates above).

Downtown Steamboat runs along Lincoln Avenue, with more restaurants a block over on Yampa Street, next to the river. The ski area's base, around Steamboat Square (formerly Gondola Square) and Ski Time Square, sits a few miles southeast of downtown. Hayden, home of Yampa Valley Regional Airport, is west on U.S. 40. Oak Creek is south on Colorado 131.

Hours change fast this time of year. Every listing links to the restaurant and says when we last checked.

How we built this guide

We checked each restaurant's own website on Oct. 27, 2026, and asked every place we could reach by email to confirm or correct what we found. Listings marked ✓ Confirmed use details the restaurant sent us. ✓ Partly confirmed means some details came from the restaurant and the rest from its website. Everything else comes from the restaurant's website on the date shown. Each listing's source line says which. We're a secondary source, not the restaurants themselves. We make every effort to keep this guide accurate and current, but hours, prices and specials can change without notice, and restaurants don't always tell us. Always check with the restaurant before you go. If you spot something out of date, email anna@yvindy.com. Please drink responsibly and plan a safe ride home.
